Born in Paris in 1961, Eliah ZABALY began his musical studies in PERPIGNAN in 1969 with Andrée DUSSOL and pursued it in PARIS in 1975 with her daughter Jacqueline DUSSOL.
After being brilliantly admitted to the National Conservatory of Music in Paris at the age of 13, he obtained in 1979 :
- A 1st Prize of Chamber Music in Maurice CRUT's classroom
- A 1st Prize of Piano by unanimity in Aldo CICCOLINI's classroom
The same year, he obtained his Scientific Baccalaureate.
In 1980, Eliah ZABALY was unanimously admitted at the 3rd Cycle of Piano at the National Conservatory of Music in Paris.
Eliah ZABALY is one of those exceptional artists.
Child prodigy, he gave his first concert with orchestra at the age of 11 with the Concerto in D major by HAYDN under the direction of Marc BLEUSE. After having brilliantly completed his studies at C.N.S.M. of Paris with a 1st Piano Prize by unanimity and a 1st Prize in Chamber Music, he goes on concert after concert, structuring his programs with the most complex works of the repertoire.
He was invited to play in France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, England, Hungary; he soon moved beyond the borders and made an international career, especially in Russia, Greece and Israel, where he settled in 1989. This unique artist conceived his career as a universal musician. Like a Rimbaud of modern times, he continues his race willingly exchanging the idea of career in favor of that of human encounter. His play and his piano interpretation, compared at an early age by unanimous criticism to those of Samson François and Horowitz, continue to evolve in maturity.
Passionate also by singing, he sang as tenor in the Tel Aviv Opera Choir under the direction of Zubin Mehta, as well as in the "Gari Bertini" Choir directed by Ronen Barshovsky.
He also regularly sings in the Jerusalem Great Synagogue Choir under the direction of Elli Jaffe and has conducted a Jewish Liturgy choir of professional singers with whom he has given numerous concerts both in Israel and abroad.
After having participated in the Krakow Jewish Culture Festival in Poland in 2005 and in 2010 as well as a series of concerts in Miami, Florida - U.S.A., he contributed to the opening of the Great Synagogue in Munich on November 9, 2006.
At the Twentieth Festival of Jewish Culture in Krakow in June 2010, his solo piano recital, with the program of modern Jewish composers, was a great success.
He is often heard on Kol Hamusica radio, performing new works by contemporary Israeli composers.
The unanimous criticism, of which here are some excerpts, has consistently praised the exceptional talent of this virtuoso pianist:"The young ZABALY ... was able to delight us and probably more than that during a recital without facility ... We felt continuously in perfect communion of heart and mind, not to say of spirituality with this performer ... knowing how to find, in a personal mode (the quality of the silences, the decisive evidence of the musical phrase), the ways traced by people like CORTOT, SAMSON FRANÇOIS or CICCOLINI ..." Jean TIERRY, Midi Libre.
"... Brilliant interpretation that confirms the talent of this young world-class artist. Through the coloring of his personal playing and his virtuosity, he reaches the highest level of perfection ... "(Sudwest Press ULM - R.F.A.-)
"... At the end of the various speeches, the artistic part began with the breathtaking performance of a virtuoso pianist, Eliah ZABALY, performing classical works whose notes were going to split on the night of the Holy Land, in front of an audience stunned and silent, a feat when you consider that many young people were waiting "pawing" their star. Marc HAVIV (Concert in Ben-Shemen on August 26, 2003).
"... The play of Eliah Zabaly becomes a luxuriant and constant polyphony, but always differentiated, which gives him the full merit attributed to him the term « interpretation ». He gives us to hear and almost to see the density, the complexity and the unsuspected richness of the musical writing of the works that he interprets, neglecting no nuance ... The virtuoso's know-how gives to his play an exceptional expressivity served by a virtuosity that does not stand out ..." Sabine AMSELLEM (Piano Recital in Jerusalem on February 18, 2017).
He has also appeared on various Radio and Television programs, including "Solists" - (Radio France), "Prélude à la Nuit" and "Prélude à l’Après-Midi » (3rd channel T.D.F.). At the announcement of this latest show, the presenter highlighted the promising talent of the young pianist adding: "Remember the name of Eliah ZABALY, like the great performers of today, he will be your companion of tomorrow's culture."
